The stats that describe striking
SLpM and SApM are the cleanest starting points. SLpM tells you how much significant striking offense a fighter produces. SApM tells you how much significant striking offense they absorb. Separately, each can mislead you. Together, they start to describe exchange control.
High SLpM plus high SApM is usually chaos, not control. It can describe a fighter who creates exchanges, but also gives opponents too many clean chances back. A lower-output fighter with a much cleaner absorption profile may be less exciting and still be harder to beat minute by minute.
That is why UFC striking differential is often more useful than raw output. A fighter who lands 5.5 significant strikes per minute but absorbs 5.2 is not the same kind of striker as someone who lands 4.2 and absorbs 2.1. The first may be volatility. The second may be control.
The stats that describe grappling
